Jim Carrey is a Canadian and American actor, comedian, and artist. He is known for his energetic slapstick performances.

He was born in the Toronto suburb of Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, to Kathleen, a homemaker, and Percy Carrey, a musician, and accountant

He and his three older siblings were raised Roman Catholic.

When he was just eight years old, he began making faces and gestures in front of a mirror. At that point, he found a talent for doing impressions.

Two years after discovering this talent of his, he went searching for opportunities. He wrote to Carol Burnett and requested a role on the live show but he got rejected.

He attended Blessed Trinity Catholic Elementary School in North York and Aldershot High School in Burlington.

The family had financial challenges and struggled to make ends meet, but they were resilient to ensure Jim furthered his schooling. He attended high school at Agincourt Collegiate Institute, but he dropped out and began to perform comedy in downtown Toronto.

Blank Check Come True

Jim Carrey might not have grown up in the richest of families, but he embraced success and progress. He believed he could do great things even though he came from a small factory town.

No wonder why he said: “If my career in show business hadn't panned out, I would probably be working today in Hamilton, Ontario, at Dofasco steel mill. Those were where the great jobs were.”

So in 1985, Carrey made an audacious decision. He wrote himself a $10-million check for “acting services rendered.” He dated it 10 years in the future and kept it in his wallet.

Interestingly, in November 1995, Carrey was part of the cast in the movie Dumb and Dumber for a whopping $10 million.

As Sir John Hargabr says: “Until it's on paper, it's vapor."
